SME classroom training
For companies training on complex equipment, this gap is operational.
Medium-sized companies cannot hire their way out of the technician gap, and they cannot train their way out of it with classrooms, manuals, passive courseware, and informal shadowing alone.
They need a deeper training design that helps new technicians and operators move from learning about the work to safely doing the work.
A different way to design learning
A unique structured approach for building real skill online

Grounded in current learning theories and informed by decades of instructional design experience, the Gumptious Learning Model™ brings shared principles together in a practical seven-ingredient framework for online course design.
Designed to build motivated, capable, and increasingly autonomous performers

Grounded in the Gumptious Learning Model™, the HAvatar Formula™ enables real equipment practice by having online learners direct a human avatar on-site—reducing the need for trainer travel, costly simulations, or lowered training standards.
Designed to produce safe, standards-aligned hands-on remote learning for real task capability
Built from real-world training experience
I’m Dr. Mae Doran, a learning systems architect specializing in online skill development.
With a Doctorate of Education focused on digital and distance education, and a Master of Education in adult learning, I bring decades of experience across IT, instructional design, online learning, and systems-based training design to one central challenge: helping people build real-world capability online.
Before academia, I built my career in IT as a workflow automation specialist—training adults, solving operational problems, and working across organizations where performance mattered.
Across 30,000+ hours of training and instructional design, one pattern is clear:
Knowledge alone cannot create skill. Only active doing can.
If you’re dealing with training that isn’t translating into real performance, let’s talk.
I’m currently speaking with a small number of organizations to explore how training can be redesigned for real-world capability.
Tell me a bit about what’s not working in your current training. If you’re dealing with results that are not translating into real performance, reach out.
